Community East Football Tournament 2008 A youth football team from Haverhill Rovers was among the winners at the Community East Football Tournament organised by six East Anglian housing associations including Havebury, on Sunday 20th July. Five aside teams of 5 to 16 year olds who live in homes owned by Havebury, Saffron Housing Trust, Broadland Housing, Circle Anglia, Orwell Housing Association and Flagship Housing Group, took part in the event at Norwich Union’s Pine Banks Sports and Leisure Centre in Norwich. The aim of the tournament was to provide a fun activity day for young people during the school summer holidays and to give their families an opportunity to meet, make new friends and improve community spirit. Haverhill Rovers entered four “Havebury” teams in the contest with the under 14s team topping their group to win a special trophy and vouchers for a day out. All the youngsters who took part in the event received a medal and t-shirt. Head of the New Business at Havebury Housing Partnership, Oonah Lacey speaking on behalf of the organisers said: “All participating housing associations, are keen to encourage young people to live active lives and initiatives like this help to encourage youngsters to not only take care of themselves, but to participate in community projects. The event was a huge success and we hope to run a similar tournament next year.” The winning teams in each category were: Under 10s, Langley Lions (Saffron Housing Trust); Under 12s, Worlingworth Wanderers (Broadland Housing); Under 14s, Haverhill Rovers (Havebury Housing Partnership) and Under 16s, Real Silfield (Saffron Housing Trust).
